Board of Management Annual Report
We were so grateful to get to host our annual sports day on Wednesday - weather conditions couldn't have been better! 😎
There were all sorts of fun races, obstacle courses, bouncy castles and most importantly... Ice-Cream!! 🍦
A fun-filled day was had by all! 🥳
See below for some snaps from the day! 📸
We celebrated Grandparents' Day today. The children from 1st, 2nd and 6th classes invited their grandparents to school for a prayer service, some singing, music, hugs and a lovely cup of tea. We would like to thank Fr. Barry for leading our lovely prayer service and the children from 3rd and 4th classes who participated in the choir.

Our victorious Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 Champions were awarded with their medals today in our GP Hall.
The girls were delighted to receive their medals from Milltown and Westmeath Ladies Star footballer Sarah Dillon. Thanks to Sarah for giving up her time to come to our school today and for her great words of encouragement and advice.
The girls also had some words of wisdom from our very own coach/teacher and Westmeath captain Ms. Fiona Coyle. How lucky are we as a school to have her here?!
And the last person to address the girls was the evergreen Terry O'Dowd. Terry spoke fondly of his time coaching the girls and noted how they always did everything that was asked of them. He also acknowledged how the school and teachers always facilitated their schedules around their training times. He wished them the best of luck as half of them move on from here and encouraged them to keep up sport in whatever form that my be.
Thanks also to the parents and grandparents who came to witness the girls receiving their medals today as it made the occasion extra special for them.
St.Colmcilles School Talent Show 2025
Written by Aifric MacDonagh Cave - 6th Class Students Council Representative
This idea to host a School Talent Show first started in 2023, as a suggestion from students, George Stephens and Emily McDonald; the fourth class representatives of that year. The idea was a huge success and has been an annual event ever since.
This year's talent show was as successful as any other, showcasing our school pupils’ talents all the way from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The talents ranged from singing to magic and a lot more in between!
The talents on display were superb and enjoyable for not only the participants but the judges, teachers and the audience!
Well done to all the students who auditioned - you made our job as judges very difficult!

Our girls school team were crowned Division 1 Champions yesterday evening in Cusack Park against a very strong Holy Family side!
The match couldn't have been closer and the girls claimed a two point victory after extra time! The girls resilience, determination and never say die attitude contributed to this fabulous team peformance and win.
Having suffered defeat earlier in the year in the group stages against this Holy Family side, the girls knew that they would need everything in their armour to get over the line. And this they did.
We literally could not be prouder of the girls.
Thank you to Terry, Ms. Coyle and Ms. Hickey for coaching the girls throughout the year.
Thank you also to the parents, teachers and supporters who came in huge numbers to support the girls. It was so heartwarming to see. The buzz around the school and Cusack Park yesterday was just electric!
Gainstown Abú !! 🥳🏆🌟
Huge congratulations to Patrick (Boys U11 Singles R'up) Tito (Boys U13 Singles Winner) and Ziva (Girls U11 Singles R'up & Girls Fair Play Award recepient). 👏
These children were awarded with their medals after the girls Division 1 final in Cusack Park. A fantastic achievement for them and their mentor Natasha. They are truly a credit to the school and their families.
Congratulations! 🤩
A huge congratulations to Carl, whose poem "Walks and Waves" won first place in the Intermediate level of the Young Writers Competition 2025! Carl’s poem will now progress to the National Stage of the competition and we wish him every success in the next round. What a fantastic achievement!
We also celebrate Fionn Carr from 5th Class, who received the "Best in School" certificate for his poem. Well done Fionn!
Both students were recently presented with their certificates and prizes at Mullingar County Library by Mr. Donal Lawlor, chairperson of the Rotary Club. The event was attended by proud parents and teachers, who joined in the celebration of the boys' success.
The whole school gathered in our GP Hall today to celebrate our talented teacher Fiona Coyle who captained the Westmeath Ladies to win the Leinster Intermediate Cup on Sunday last in Cusack Park (18/5/25).
They defeated Laois on a scoreline of 1-12 to 9 points. They were led from the back by captain Fiona and they built up a great lead by half time. They continued to dominate in the second half and ran out convincing winners.
We are so proud of Fiona and all the Westmeath team. What an inspiration she is for our girls Division 1 team as they too try to win silverware on Thursday in Cusack Park at 5pm against Holy Family on Thursday.
Please make sure to get yourselves to Cusack Park to give the girls the support they deserve!

All support for these fantastic girls would be greatly appreciated!

Our talented girls soccer team were in action yesterday competing in the Leinster Finals of the FAI 5-a-Side Girls competition in Dublin. See below for a breakdown of the games and the results.
1st opponents - Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna ( Dublin ) Finish 3 - 3
Emily got the 1st - Kate got the 2nd.
Went 2 up - brought back to 2 2 with an unfortunate deflection and a great finish by the Dublin champs.
Emily thought she'd won it with a nice finish in the final minute only for Dublin to score with effectively the last kick of the game - heartbreak.
2nd opponents - Marshalstown NS ( Wexford ) Finish 3 - 0
A well drilled and extremely physical team.
Questionable officiating - we felt we had a stone wall penalty - not given. And they were awarded a questionable free that they scored from
The better team won on the day however the result could have been closer. Eventual champions - worthy winners. Played hard and fair.
3rd game - Murklagh National School ( Offaly ) Finish 2 - 1
We went one down to Mucklagh National School before Emily pulled one back.
They went ahead again and held that lead - desperately disappointing as we dominated the game - even striking the crossbar. Their keeper was outstanding - such a talent.
She kept everything we threw at her out.
All 8 players played their hearts out on the day. We finished 3rd on the day.
Thanks to Laura and Michelle for their help and support and our mascots Toby and Harry.
A selection of students from 4th - 6th class were delighted to get the chance to work alongside Classic Hits Radio Presenter Traic (Niall) Ó'Braonáin today.
The "Ours to Protect" feature will be broadcast from May-October 2025, and it aims to raise awareness of climate issues and foster a positive attitude among the general public towards a more sustainable and greener future.
There is a website www.ourstoprotect.ie that features all the information on the project, and the segments that were broadcast in the first series last year. The upcoming monthly features will also be added to this site throughout the summer, along with the Classic Hits website. .
In this new series, there will be a monthly theme, e.g. Biodiversity, Fast Fashion, Energy, Travel, Household Waste, etc. They will be getting experts on to inform the public on how we can all help to deal with these problems. As part of the series this year, they’ll also be recording childrens’ answers to some associated questions, e.g. What is Climate Change? What is Fast Fashion? etc.
The children above from 4th - 6th Class answered climate related questions in a vox pop survey format. Traic was delighted with how the recordings went and has told the children that it will most likely be the most natural sounding answers that will feature more than accurate answers alone!
We can't wait to hear what our students had to say on all these important topics. Thank you to the students who volunteered to participate and their class teachers for facilitating it. A big thank you also to Traic for enabling and coordinating the whole thing.
Ellie in 3rd Class raised a huge €1120 for LauraLynn - Ireland's Children's Hospice. She showed what a big heart she has by bravely cutting her beautiful hair to donate and raise funds for this wonderful charity. Well done, Ellie. We are all very proud of you.

Our girls were victorious in today's Division 1 semi final against a spirited St. Etchen's Kinnegad on a scoreline of 5-9 to 1-2.
Played under glorious sunshine and in perfect conditions on our home pitch, the atmosphere was electric from the first whistle. Every one of the 13 starters—and the subs who made an impact from the bench—played their hearts out and contributed to this fantastic team victory.
With this win, we've now booked our place in the Division 1 Final where we’ll face Holy Family in Cusack Park during the week of May 19th (date and time to be confirmed).
Thanks to all who helped to get the pitch ready and to all who came out to support the girls today. Let's make sure to get behind them now for their last and biggest test of the season.
